Buddhist Bodhi Day

Buddhist Holiday: December 8th Bodhi Day
The original Buddha, prince Siddartha Gautama left his home & family in search of the truth of life but after 6 years & considerable suffering hadn't found it. So he sat under a Bodhi Tree & vowed not to move until he found truth. He sat & fasted under the Bodhi Tree for 8 days & on the 8th day, found enlightenment which was to become the principles of modern Buddhism -
The Four Noble Truths. ~ 596 BC
Buddhism Prayer Wheel

There are thought to be anywhere from 230 million - 500 million Buddihists worldwide. A core belief In Buddhism, is that enlightenment (bodhi) is awakening from one's delusions, especially the delusions of the ego and of a separate self.
Both a religion and a philosophy, Buddism teaches that suffering ceases when desires cease and from this place one can become awakened/enlightened. The Buddha's first sermon after his Enlightenment centered on the Four Noble Truths, which are the foundation of Buddhism. The truths are:
1. The truth of suffering (dukkha)
2. The truth of the cause of suffering (samudaya)
3. The truth of the end of suffering (nirhodha)
4. The truth of the path that frees us from suffering (magga)
Practice towards enlightenment includes meditation & chanting sometimes done with the aid of prayer wheels.
